Flying the Line - Ford 5-AT-C Tri-Motor, N414H : This particular Ford Tri-Motor was originally owned by the Ford Motor Company and was later operated by Pan American Airways on it's route segments in South America. The plane was also operated briefly by TWA during their 50th Anniversary. First flown on September 4, 1929, N414H (Serial No. 74) is currently the only airworthy model 5-AT-C Tri-Motor flying in the world today. Throughout the years, this plane has been featured in commercials and film including the Mel Brooks' 1980 remake of the classic 1942 comedy "To Be or Not to Be". More recently, it was considered to be in the recent Indiana Jones adventure film, but Steven Spielberg decided to use a russian Antonov AN-2 instead. Previous famous pilots that have flown N414H have included; Charles Lindbergh, his grandson Erik Lindbergh, Paul Mantz, Art Scholl and Steve Hinton. Currently owned by aviation enthusiast and collector John Siebold, it has been an honor and a privledge for me to be one of very few pilots to fly this aircraft on a regular basis at air shows and aviation related events. N414H is hangared and maintained at Valle Airpark in northern Arizona and is displayed by the Planes of Fame Air Museum.
